Known as the highest village in Portugal, Sabugueiro is a charming and authentic mountain community where tradition remains very much alive.

Here, you can experience the daily life of the mountain people, discover their stories, and learn about customs that have been passed down through generations. Stroll through the village, admire its rustic character, and enjoy the genuine hospitality of its residents.

It is the largest lagoon in this mountain and has a glacier origin. Its special shape is the result of geological and climatic phenomena over the centuries. It is used to produce electricity, but its beauty makes this lagoon an unmissable stopping point.

A unique place, where we can see the waters of the lagoon falling into a giant funnel and disappearing mysteriously.

Despite its natural appearance, this circular opening with a waterfall in a lagoon was a man built in 1955, during the construction of the Hydroelectric Dam. It is however a beautiful place and well worth visiting.

Nestled in the heart of the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, within the stunning glacial valley of Loriga, this tranquil river beach is one of the region’s most remarkable natural treasures.

Its crystal-clear, refreshing waters form beautiful natural pools, surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery. The unique landscape, shaped over thousands of years, creates the perfect setting for relaxation and contemplation.

One of the most charming mountain villages in Portugal is Manteiga, in the heart of the Mountain, it is part of the Serra da Estrela Natural Park.

Manteigas is famous for its delicious gastronomy, and its singular architecture with white, red-roofed houses clinging to verdant slopes. Nearby, for even more relaxing days, you will find an ancient Spa – Caldas de Manteigas – with healing therapeutic hot-sulfur-rich waters.

Located in Penhas Douradas, in the heart of the Serra da Estrela Mountains, Vale do Rossim sits at an altitude of 1,437 metres, surrounded by some of the region’s most spectacular landscapes.

Home to Portugal’s highest inland beach area and set within one of Europe’s most impressive glacial valleys, this unique destination is a true haven for nature lovers. Its crystal-clear waters, which can reach temperatures of up to 22°C during the warmer months, provide the perfect setting for a refreshing swim or a moment of relaxation.

Covão d’Ametade is one of the most bucolic places in the Serra da Estrela mountain. It is located at the entrance of the Zézere Valley. It is a very beautiful place, with its surrounding vegetation. The place is almost 1500 meters high, and it is not accessible on the most severe winter days when the roads do not allow going through due to the snow.

This is the place where a building, located at the top of the mountain, symbolizes the highest point in mainland Portugal. At the top of its 1,993 meters, we can see the magnificent landscape of valleys and rocks.

In the summer, on clear days we can even see the sea. The view can reach the beach of Figueira da Foz.

Located on the northwestern edge of the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, Linhares da Beira is a historic village whose origins date back to medieval times. Thanks to its strategic hilltop location, it played an important defensive role throughout history and was successively occupied by Romans, Visigoths, and Moors before being reconquered by Afonso Henriques, Portugal’s first King.

Today, Linhares da Beira is considered one of Portugal’s most beautiful historic villages. As you wander through its narrow cobbled streets, you’ll discover a place where history, tradition, and timeless charm blend seamlessly

Nestled at the foot of the Serra da Estrela Mountains, Covilhã is one of the main gateways to Portugal’s highest mountain range. Known as the historic centre of the Portuguese wool industry, the city proudly preserves its rich textile heritage while embracing a vibrant modern character.

A visit to Covilhã should include its fascinating historic quarter, where highlights include the former Jewish Quarter (Judiaria) with its charming narrow streets, the Chapels of São Martinho and Santa Cruz, and the Wool Museum, which tells the story of a centuries-old tradition that shaped the city’s identity.
