Private Óbidos & Ericeira
Step back in time and indulge your senses on a private day tour from Lisbon, exploring two of Portugal’s most captivating destinations—Óbidos and Ericeira. This journey blends history, culture, and coastal beauty with fine wines and local delicacies.
Nestled in the heart of the West Coast, the medieval town of Óbidos enchants visitors with its cobblestone alleys, whitewashed houses, and floral balconies. Often called the “Village of Queens,” Óbidos was traditionally offered as a wedding gift to Portuguese monarchs’ brides, a legacy reflected in its abundance of churches and romantic atmosphere.
Wander within the ancient city walls and explore its well-preserved castle, charming streets, and artisanal shops. Savor the town’s famous cherry liqueur, Ginjinha de Óbidos, traditionally served in a chocolate cup—a treat with monastic origins.
Your journey continues with a visit to a local vineyard in the Lisbon Wine Region, where you’ll sample wines once favored in Elizabethan England and the Victorian era. Discover the stories behind these celebrated vintages and enjoy a guided tasting surrounded by the vineyard’s serene landscapes.
From history to the coast, we’ll head to Ericeira, a picturesque fishing town perched on dramatic cliffs above the Atlantic. Known for its world-class surf and laid-back charm, Ericeira offers the perfect setting for a relaxed seaside lunch with panoramic ocean views.
The day concludes with another wine tasting at a coastal vineyard, where the sea breeze and salty air add a unique character to the wines of this region.
Let yourself be captivated by Portugal’s timeless beauty—where every stop tells a story, and every flavor speaks of tradition.

Tour Location
Óbidos and Ericeira
The medieval town of Óbidos is among Portugal’s most charming and well-preserved historical sites.
Perched on elevated terrain near the Atlantic coast and not far from the capital, Óbidos has long held strategic significance. Its origins date back to before the Roman presence on the Iberian Peninsula, and the town flourished after being favored by the royal family. In the 13th century, King Dinis gifted Óbidos to his wife, Queen Isabel, integrating it into the Casa das Rainhas (Queens’ Estate). Over successive dynasties, the queens enhanced and adorned the town, a legacy that helps explain its remarkable concentration of churches.
Within the town walls, visitors can explore a well-preserved castle and wander through a network of narrow streets lined with whitewashed houses. Manueline-style doorways, colorful window boxes, and quaint squares add to the town’s charm, while numerous examples of religious and civic architecture from its heyday provide countless reasons to explore and enjoy Óbidos.
Once a traditional fishing village, Ericeira has seen significant growth throughout the 20th century as it became a popular summer destination. Despite this development, the town has preserved its unique charm and distinctive character.
Located just fifty kilometers from Lisbon and easily reachable, Ericeira’s beaches are especially busy during the summer months. Renowned as some of Europe’s top surfing spots, they attract enthusiasts from around the world. Ribeira d’Ilhas Beach, in particular, is famous for hosting an annual World Surfing Championship event.
A trip to Ericeira also offers the perfect chance to savor the local cuisine, which is celebrated for its fresh seafood and shellfish specialties.
